For example, it can be nice to have some type of wood in the interior, for example a table, and then match the frames on the wall with the same type of wood. Another option is to use discrete frames, such as black or white frames, to make the picture stand out more. In some interior design styles, it can be nice to have, for example, black frames if you have a lot of black straight lines in the furniture, such as black legs on a sofa or black chairs with black straight lines.

You often get far from your gut feeling and what you think is nice to have on the wall, but to create a harmonious gallery wall that matches well with the rest of the interior we have some useful tips. One method is to match a recurring color found in furniture and other decoration, and reflect it in the pictures on the wall. For example, if you have pink elements in the interior, you can have a couple of prints with similar pink colors, and combine it with more neutral prints. Examples of neutral prints are those that have a lot of white in them and not so distinct colors, or completely black and white prints.

Another method may be to choose one or a few complementary colors to their main color in the room. For example, to have a red color in prints if you have a lot of green in other interiors. It can also be nice to match prints based on a certain theme, for example to have only sea and water prints or prints with a winter theme. With such a theme you can tell a story, for instance if you match nature pictures and city pictures to emphasize the contrast and symbiosis between urbanization and nature.

Margin, passepartout - what is the difference?

As a next step when you have selected the frame and prints, you can choose to add either a white margin around the image or a passepartout. This can be very nice to more clearly frame the pictures and make them stand out, but also to tone down a picture that may otherwise be a little too colorful. The difference between a white margin and a passepartout is that a print is printed with a white margin all around it, and a passepartout is a piece of cardboard that you put on top to hide part of the picture itself.
